Meet the Students

Maurice Brown

Background:

Maurice Brown was born and raised in Washington, DC. He attended Eastern SHS and graduated in 2004.

Maurice and College Bound:

Maurice joined College Bound when he was in the 9th grade and was a participant at the Gonzaga site in NW Washington, DC. College Bound really emphasized to him the importance of speaking up and speaking out about who he was and what his goals were. It taught him to have fun and do well in school. The mentors in the program encouraged him to stay focused on his goals especially his Site Coordinator, Kenneth Ward.

College Life:

Maurice is currently a sophomore at George Washington University. Maurice is a participant with City Light Group Worship. Maurice is a deeply spiritual person and this has a major impact on him. He uses his religion and spirituality to positively influence his life. He is also volunteering with the Office of Community Service.

College Bound Scholarship

The scholarship is helping Maurice to pay for all the extra things he needs while he's in school like books, school supplies, and room supplies.

Hands on DC:

In 2005, Maurice represented College Bound at the Hands on DC rally, where he spoke about his participation in the program and what community service means to him. He also helped to paint at Cardozo SHS.

*Maurice is a Joel Trachtenberg Scholar at GWU. The Trachtenberg Scholars program provides seniors with full, four-year scholarships covering tuition, room and board, books, and fees. Scholarships are awarded to a group of the most gifted students in DCPS.
