Alandia Bass
Background:
Alandia was born and raised in Washington, DC. She attended H.D Woodson SHS and graduated in 2002.Alandia and College Bound:
She joined College Bound in the 8th grade and was a participant from 1997-2002 at the St. Matthews Site, in SE Washington DC.Her mentor was Marcie who served as a positive influence for her throughout College Bound; she really tried to help Alandia in any way she could. There were also a couple other mentors at her site who really influenced her and helped her to stay positive while in the program.
College Life:
Alandia is currently enrolled at Virginia State University where she majors in Criminal Justice. She is a member of Sista 2 Sista--an all women's organization that thrives focuses on love, compassion, and diversity. Joining and becoming a part of an organization that is about helping others and the surrounding community has made her overcome obstacles, learn about herself, and accomplish her personal goals.College Bound and college:
College Bound helped Alandia in many ways as it helped her to prepare for college and all the studying that she has to do. The scholarship that she received from College Bound and Hands on DC is a blessing to her because it also ways seem to come at the right time--whether it's for books, or just bare necessities.Hands on DC:
She has participated in many events for Hands on DC. The work-a-thons taught her the meaning of community service and the importance of helping others.*Alandia also took a year before college to participate in City Year, City Year's signature program, the City Year youth service corps, unites more than 1,000 young adults, ages 17-24, from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement.
